BUdR triphosphat kann bei der DNA-polymerisation in die DNA eingebaut werden um die synthetische DNA dann mittels Anti-BUdR Antikörper zu detektieren. Der BUdR triphosphat Einbau wird auch benutzt um damit zufällige Mutationen in der synthetisierten DNA zu erzeugen.
