Pepstatin A (Isovalenyl-L-val-L-val-statinyl-L-ala-statin) wird aus Streptomyces testaceus isoliert. Es ist ein potenter Inhibitor von sauren Proteasen (aspartic proteases), inklusive Pepsin, Renin und Cathepsin D und vielen mikrobieller saurer Proteasen. Pepstatin ist wenig toxisch.
