3-Amino-7-dimethylamino-2-methylphenazinehydrochlorid; Toluylene red. Die Überexpression von rekombinanten Proteinen wird unter anderem im Vaccinia-Virus-System durchgeführt. Zur Identifizierung der Virus-infizierten Zellen, werden lebende Zellen mit Neutralrot gefärbt, die infizierten Zellen sind abgerundet und tot und erscheinen als farblose 'Plaques' (1). Neutralrot dringt durch die meisten Membranen. Die Zellen werden mit 0,1 mg/ml Neutralrot (Stammlösung 10 mg/ml in Wasser) gefärbt.
