Die biologische Aktivität wird über die Fähigkeit berechnet, CXCR2 transfizierte 293-Zellen in einem Konzentrationsbereich von 10-100ng/mL zu beeinflussen. Chemokin (C-X-C motif) Ligand 2 (CXCL2) ist ein kleines Zytokin das zur CXC-Chemokinfamilie gehört. Es wir auch Makrophage-Inflammatory-Protein 2-alpha (MIP2-alpha), Growth-regulated Protein beta (Gro-beta) und Gro-Oncogen-2 (Gro-2) genannt. CXCL2 ist zu 90% mit dem verwandten Chemokin, CXCL1, identisch. CXCL2 wird von Monozyten und Makrophagen sezerniert und wirkt chemotaktisch auf Polymorphonukleare Leukozyten und blutbildende Stammzellen.
